The seven-piece group is unique in the fact that four of the band members sing lead vocals. They perform about 60 percent original music. “We span several formats, from country, Americana, rock and R&B,” said founding member Jim Wyly. “All band members are writers and we all have our influences. In my case, I like Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Creedence and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. We have one younger member but the rest of us are in the mid- to late 40s range, so our influences are more in the classic rock era. “Mike Arterbury and I have known each other for over 30 years and we used to sing duos together. About four years ago, we hooked up with his son, Mark, and a friend of mine named Larry Murray and started jamming together. We slowly picked up the other guys — Elliott White, Eddie Penix and Gerald Lowen — and we've been playing together for about two years now. “We're very confident about our original music because we started off playing in bars and we played mostly original songs. The cover tunes we did were carefully selected from our individual influences. Of course, there's always the one guy in the bar that yells ‘Free Bird,' so I guess we need to learn that one.” The music kicks off around 8 p.m. The band's upcoming shows include The Shanty at Canyon Lake on March 17 and The Shade Tree Saloon in Spring Branch on March 31. |
